Sei ${\displaystyle G\subseteq \mathbb {C} }$ ein Gebiet, sei ${\displaystyle \Gamma }$ ein Zyklus in ${\displaystyle G}$. ${\displaystyle \Gamma }$ heißt nullhomolog in ${\displaystyle G}$, wenn für jedes ${\displaystyle z\in \mathbb {C} \setminus G}$ die Umlaufzahl verschwindet, wenn also ${\displaystyle \mathbb {C} \setminus G\subseteq A_{\Gamma }=\{z\in \mathbb {C} :n(\Gamma ,z)=0\}}$ gilt.
