Mit dem Satellite Award Bester Dokumentarfilm werden die filmischen Dokumentationen ausgezeichnet, die filmkünstlerisch herausragend umgesetzt worden sind. Diese Auszeichnung wird seit 1997 verliehen.
Es werden immer jeweils die Dokumentarfilme des Vorjahres ausgezeichnet.
